In 2017, like the previous year, I attended IHRSA. For industry insiders, IHRSA is a known term. But for the layman, it’s an uncommon acronym. IHRSA stands for International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association. IHRSA’s annual convention and trade show was in LA this spring. And this year, the Reaxing exhibit had one of the larger exhibitor areas. I decided to take a good look, as their products were eye-catchingly unique.
What is Reaxing?
According to the Reaxing website, Reaxing is:
“Reaxing is a lifestyle, a new way of moving, thinking, training.
Reaxing finds its roots in the idea that every day we’re exposed to unpredictable situations. The ability to react is the cornerstone of our psychophysical well-being. When something unexpected occurs, we are expected to react with our body and mind. These two entities are strictly connected. We receive information from our senses, then our central nervous system integrates them. Biomechanical, biochemical and biophysical reactions define our body wellness. Thinking, moving, reacting, resting and training are Reaxing verbs.”
What makes it unique
I found Reaxing to be unique because of its use of unstable objects as a training enhancement. From moving floors moving in reaction to your body displacement, to moving floors that operate by motor, causing you to react to the changing surface you are on.
In addition, reaxing incorporates weights that are unstable as well. From water filled balloons that take the place of common weight plates, to bungee cords used to suspend these same water filled balloons, creating even more movement in the tools you use.

Is Reaxing for you?
Only you can know that, and you may have a difficult time finding a US-based facility that has their equipment. I’ve not run into it beyond the IHRSA show floor. As an Italian company, they may just be beginning to focus marketing efforts in the US. I’m not really certain.

I want to thank Ivan of Reaxing for showing me their products and working with his team to demo their use.
